Goalkeeper gloves are crucial for goalkeepers. However, frequent use can lead to an unpleasant side effect – the notorious goalkeeper glove odor. This happens for many reasons, such as sweat absorption inside the gloves, bacteria growth, and improper drying or the goalkeeper gloves not being allowed to breath.

How does this affect your goalkeeping? It's not enjoyable putting on damp, smelly GK gloves, and it's likely this will affect your performance and confidence in your equipment. Plus, the bacteria growth inside the glove can start causing damge to the seams of the glove, making it more likely to break down quicker.

Wash your goalkeeper gloves

WASH - Although the smell comes from the inside of your goalkeeper gloves, it's also important to wash gloves on the outside. This is because goalkeeper latex palms are pourus, so dirt can get into the latex through the small gaps in the material. Washing your gloves reguarly will help stop them smelling.

Use a glove freshener spray

REFRESH - gloveglu have developed products that break down bacteria inside the gloves. The unique DIRTech formula within gloveglu freshener sprays is unique in that it targets the bacteria that produces the bad smells, rather than just covering up the smells. Simply spray 3 times inside each glove to target the foul-smelling bacteria.

Dry goalkeeper gloves properly

DRY - A key reason why goalkeeper gloves smell is because they are not left to dry properly. Dampness and moisture are breeding grounds for bacteria to build up inside goalkeeper gloves. Ensure you leave plenty of time for goalkeeper gloves to dry, and make sure gloves have plenty of airflow to help dry. Never use direct sources of heat to dry gloves as this can lead them to crack the latex.
